I have two children two years and younger. It's hard for me to even use the restroom by myself, let alone take a shower without two onlookers. I did, though, get very brave yesterday and locked the gate at the top of the stairs, opened all of the bedroom doors, and let my young roam around our not-so-big upstairs while I was taking a shower. I figured there was nothing they could get into that could hurt them and their bedrooms would be more fun than the bathroom. What I didn't think of were all of the places they couldn't get out of.
For anyone with small children you know that it is no small feat to try and take a shower by yourself. You know all about how there is no time to think about what is going to happen when you step into the shower. You have to be on autopilot and most of the time you can't even remember if you washed everything or not. Forget shaving your legs or anything else for that matter. You just have to get in and get out. And I did. But, I quickly realized that my children were being extremely quiet. Quietness in a household such as mine is a sure sign of trouble or mischief. As I tiptoed through my bedroom trying to sneak a peak at my two little ones, I heard small talk coming through their bathroom door. I turned the handle to open the door and what do you know? The door is locked. I asked Lily if she was ok and she replied, "Okay, Mom". I had obviously interrupted. When I finally busted through the door with my little "key" I found the entire box of bandaids scattered across the bathroom. None had actually reached their skin...but I knew that would have been next. Lily was trying her hardest to rip them open.
They both smiled at me like it was very normal for a two-year-old and ten-month-old to be locked in a bathroom together. Truth be told, they probably just wanted some alone time and thought the only way to get it was in the bathroom. I know the feeling. :)
