My friend Adrienne "tagged" me to explain how I came up with my kids' names. Thinking back, it seemed very easy to come up with the names, though boys names are a lot harder, in my opinion. :)
Lily Kathryn: She was almost named Kylie. We loved that name. But a while after we found out she was a girl, I came across the name Lily (and knew no one named that - at the time!)...and loved it. I mentioned the name to my Mom and she said she had a great aunt named Lily. I laughed because that would make her my great, great aunt...and my baby girl's great, great, great aunt...which is very far down the line! But, regardless, Kevin loved the name, too. Her middle name is Kevin's grandmother's name. We have/had all intentions of calling her Lily Kate (I'm southern, I love the double names!) but as a baby, everyone called her "Baby Lily" and "Baby Lily Kate" was such a mouthful. My parents do call her Lily Kate, though we don't consistently. I most definitely will start calling her Lily Kate if she gets to kindergarten and there is another Lily. :)
Landon Alexander: In college, I remember dreaming up my "son's" name with my girlfriends. My son was always named Landon. I just loved it. Kevin didn't, though. He said it reminded him of a professional soccer player and he didn't want to name our baby after someone famous. For the record, I had never even heard of him, so he couldn't have been that famous. :) One night we were in bed reading through a baby name book and I came across the name Landon...and once again hinted that it was the perfect name. I showed it to him in the book and he said, "That's how you spell it?" And I said, "Yes, how did you think it was spelled?"...He let me know he really liked it once he saw it. Crazy, I know! I was so thankful because he is such a "Landon"...Alexander is my mother's maiden name. On our list of boys names was also Preston. But, then again Britney Spears little boy is Sean Preston so Kevin would have eventually knocked that name off of our list, too!
We never intended to have two children with "L" names, but love how they go together. I just worry about a third baby's name...Would we come up with another L? Would they feel left out if their name didn't start with an L? I do know family's that have children with all of the same letters...even the beginning of names...like "Br"...who knows! Lily and Landon are so close together in age, so it just seems to fit perfectly. :)
